Humidify the air

Humidifier Oskar – an experience report by Manuela Sterki

Temperatures outdoors drop to freezing and indoors it is pleasantly warm. Candles and lights create a peaceful atmosphere in the lounge and the central heating radiates a cosy warmth. That is precisely why the air is subject to considerable fluctuations during the winter period. At this time of year, our whole body, our body temperature and in particular our immune system too are put under great pressure as we are constantly going from heated indoor spaces back outside into the cold air, exposing us to constant fluctuations in temperature.

The central heating is on permanently at home so that no-one freezes but precisely for that reason, the air is very dry and often unpleasantly stuffy too. Our body’s own defence system goes into overdrive and can really use some support. A humidifier can help by improving the indoor climate and create a healthy feel-good atmosphere full of energy. That is where my little helper Oskar from Stadler Form comes in.

Hello winter, hello common colds

As a mother of three young children, it is perfectly normal for my little ones to keep bringing home all kinds of viruses and bacteria from nursery and school. The common cold season seems to start promptly at the beginning of autumn every year and run through to the spring. We are constantly dealing with colds through the winter time and my three little ones take turns in catching them. The children’s immune systems are not fully developed yet and not least because of that, they often find it hard to cushion the constant fluctuations in temperature and changes in the air. So a runny nose that quickly turns red and skin that is also irritated by the dry air are things that we have to put up with all winter long. That is why it is all the more important for us to have a good indoor climate at home and for me to always be able to keep the climate at a good constant level with our humidifier. Also, the humidifier must not represent a safety hazard. Little children’s hands get everywhere and as a mother, I have to be sure that everything in the house is child-proof. And so I have been relying on the new member of our family – Oskar – for the last couple of weeks. He is an elegant and highly efficient humidifier from the Swiss company Stadler Form.

How did we come up with the idea?

I came up with the idea of finally having a humidifier at home a couple of months ago. He had to look good and have a positive influence on our indoor climate. And then I saw Oskar on the Internet and I knew that he would be the perfect fit for our home. I chose this humidifier because he not only offers all the functions I was looking for but he also looks great. He is small, square and handy and stands in our lounge next to the sofa. He really doesn’t look like a technical device, n0, more like a modern decorative object. In terms of looks, he fits in just perfectly in our home and his simple, child-proof design means that I can put him in any room. The name of the Stadler Form brand is engraved very discretely on the base. All in all, he is a modern and technically sophisticated humidifier.

And then finally he arrived

When the postman rang the doorbell and handed me the package a few days after I had placed the order, I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to find out what Oskar looked like «in real life» and whether he would deliver on his promises. After I had taken him out of the box, I followed the instructions provided which were very easy to understand so I had no problem at all getting Oskar up and running. After filling the tank with water and selecting the level of humidity I wanted, I pressed the power button and he started up. To start with, I wasn’t actually sure if he was working because I couldn’t hear any noise at all coming from him. It’s incredible how quiet he is. No noises to disturb anyone and no glaring lights. He simply stands quietly and calmly in the lounge and does his thing. I was very surprised at how easy he was to set up and how quick he was to start working: he was «ready to deliver» in less than 10 minutes. Just the way I like it!

Our conclusion

It only took two weeks for me to draw my conclusion regarding Oskar. Since he came to live with us, we have felt more energetic and healthier. The air is no longer dry and there are no more red noses. We come home, can breathe easily and simply feel good in our new indoor climate. In addition, he alternates between the children’s rooms during the day as well as at night. As he makes no noise and you can also dim his light, he is invisible so to speak and provides good air quality and a cosy atmosphere. The fact that Oskar also looks great and fits in perfectly in our house is the icing on the cake. I could never be without my humidifier now and I am looking forward to next winter.
